Mold and Kitchen Cabinets: Do You Have Mold Growing In Your Cabinets?

Found a Presence of Mold in Your Kitchen Cabinets?

If you find a presence of mold in your kitchen cabinets, it can be troublesome for the health of you and your family. When the interior of a cabinet becomes wet, that dampness can linger which can lead to the development of mold. Luckily, small mold problems inside of kitchen cabinets are typically easy to clean and remove with non-ammonia cleaners. As with any other discovery of mold, you first want to determine the source of it in order to help stop and prevent it from becoming a reoccurring issue. Although, you might not know how deep the issue is without consulting a professional or removing the cabinets to look at the walls behind them. Mold obviously poses many health risks, especially when it is in a place where you store your dishes, food and other things that you might use on a daily basis.

If mold is found behind your cabinets, you may have to remove the cabinets in order to best treat the mold from its source. Or, if you discover that the mold issue is beyond the cabinets, you might want to have a professional company come and assess the situation. It is possible that the mold could have started from a leaking sink or other source.

Preventing mold growth in your cabinets is pretty easy. You will probably want to frequently check sinks in order to make sure you don’t have an ongoing water leak. This could be checking the area routinely or installing a leak detection system. Of course, if you do find dampness or water in your cabinets, make sure to clean and dry them thoroughly to help prevent the growth of mold in the cabinets.
